Death of Mrs. Martha Hovelson
Mrs. Martha Hanson Hovelson was born in Norway, December 1, 1811 and died in Osage, Iowa, June 27,1897.
She was united in marriage to Hover Hovelson in 1812. In 1850 they came to America and settled in Wisconsin. In 1864 they removed to Dakota and in 1865 they came to Mitchell County, Iowa, which was their home as long as they lived.
Mrs. Hovelson was the mother of three children, two of whom survive her, Hover and John who reside in this place.
Mrs. Hovelson was a noble, true woman. In a quiet, unostentatious manner she did well her part in life.
She was a true wife and loving mother. Owing to the fact that she could not speak the English language she was more or less isolated from the world about her for the past few years excepting as she was brought in contact with those who spoke her native tongue.
For several years she was in feeble health and scarcely left her home. In girlhood she consecrated her life to the Saviour and became a member of the Lutheran Church. She sought to walk in the way of righteousness and the end was peace.
The funeral services were held at the residence of John Hovelson and the remains were taken to Rock Creek for interment. Rev. W. W. Gist conducted the service.
