Alphia (Kruger) Rachut-Walk, age 87, died on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Three Links Care Center, Northfield, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Worth County, Iowa, with Rev. Wayne Ellingson and AiM Irmgard Ellingson officiating. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Rock Township, southwest of St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Alphia Kruger was born on July 29, 1920 in rural Grafton, Iowa, to Alfred and Lydia (Kirchgatter) Kruger. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Iowa, where she was married to Roy Rachut on February 18, 1940. They made their home and their living on a farm four miles east of Grafton.

Roy and Alphia were active members of St. John's Lutheran Church, one-half mile from their home. Alphia loved to be outdoors and took an active part in farming the land. After Roy's death in 1971, Alphia married Harley Walk in November 1973. They were members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. They lived just west of Grafton where Harley raised turkeys.

Alphia moved to Worth Living Center in St. Ansgar, and then to the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar in August, 2005. In April 2007 she moved to Three Links Care Center in Northfield, Minnesota.

Alphia enjoyed attending church and church activities, gardening, doing good works for the elderly in the community, and giving her grandchildren some great "farming experiences".

Though Alphia had Alzheimer's and may not have known us of late in her memory, she did know us in her heart.

Alphia was preceded in death by her parents; by a sister, Evelyn Steinberg; by two brothers, Elery and Wilfred Kruger; by her daughter, Shirley (Ken) Fossey, by her husbands, Roy Rachut, and Harley Walk.

Alphia is survived by three daughters: Mary Ann(Alan) Greenman, Austin, Minnesota, Darlene (Verle) Zuehl, Northbridge, Massachusetts, and Betty (Stan) Brumm, Eden Prairie, Minnesota. She is also survived by a step-daughter, Anne (Harry) Hammond, Boulder, Colorado; and by a step-son, Mark (Tracy) Walk, Osage, Iowa; along with 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar was in charge of arrangements. (641) 713-4920.
