Funeral services were held January 15, 1977 at Adams, Minn., for Mrs. John (Mary) Thome, 72, of Adams. She died at the Adams Health Care Center January 13, 1977, following an illness of more than a year .

Msgr. Bernard Mangan of Rose Creek celebrated the 11:00 a.m. funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, assisted by Rev. Robert J. Reiss of Stacyville. Pall bearers were grandsons of the deceased, Dean Thome, John Hemann, Charles Hemann, Warren Hanson, Craig Hanson and Arlen Hanson. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with the Adams Funeral Home in charge.

Mary Bissen Thome was born Septmeber 9, 1904 at Johnsburg, Minn., the daughter of John and Christina Waldorf Bissen. Following the early decease her parents, she raised her brothers and sisters.

She was united in marriage to John E. Thome at St. Johns Catholic Church, Johnsburg, Minn., on October 24, 1923. They farmed in the Meyer-Stacyville area until 1927, moving then to north of Johnsburg where they farmed until 1970 when they retired to their present home in Adams. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams and its ladies’ unit.

Mrs. Thome is survived by her husband, John E. Thome; three sons, Wilfred of Stacyville, Cletus of Adams and Melvin, Johnsburg; three daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Bernice) Hanson of Owatonna, Minn., Mrs. Lioba Smith, Adams, and Mrs. Alfred (Darlene) Hemann of Stacyville, Iowa; three brothers, William Bissen, Austin, Minn., John Bissen, Stewartville, Minn. and Edward Bissen, Owatonna, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. Arnold (Regina) Koenigs of Stacyville; twenty nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter, Joanne in infancy, a sister, Alvina, and a brother, Aloysius.
