OBITUARY- Gordon.

Andrew Boyd Gordon was born February 2, 1831, at Cady, County of Armaugh, Ireland.

While yet an infant his parents came to America, and settled Leeds county, Ontario, Canada, where he grew to manhood and on September 28, 1854, he was united in marriage to Julia Lillie.

To this union were born six children, namely; Mrs. J.R. Delaney who died at Beach, N.D.,
March 1,1912, Mrs.L.D.Fountain of Kearney, Neb., George A.,of Beach,N.D.,Rollin J.of Gull Lake, Sask., Mrs. F. Swancutt of Riceville, and Jesse A., of Osage, Iowa.

In 1865, he came to Mitchell county, settling at Stacyville and took up the incident life of the early pioneer. While a young man, back in Canada he was converted, under Rev. Danile Pomroy and united with the Methodist church at Elgin,Ontario. His strong Christian character, together with such men as Charles and Stephen Taylor, Father Wallace, Joseph Reynolds and the Penney brothers, was a factor in building the Methodist church in Stacyville, the old building, though remodled still stands as a mounment of their work.

At the time the nearest railroad was at McGregor and lumber was brought from that point. Everyone who could drive a nail was drafted in to the service and under the supervision of Father Wallace the church was completed. Here Mr. Gordon found a home. He was always in his place at the services, often bringing his family to the church with oxen and a hayrack. For many years he was a class leader here, and he organized and led a class near his home and was always a liberal giver to the cause.

The remains were brought to Osage Friday, surrounded by his children and in the presence of many of the old friends and neighbors, Rev. Frank W. Court of the Osage Methodist church, conducted the last sad rites after which he was laid to rest by the side of his aged companion, who preceded him nearly three years ago.
