Lorenzo D. Rice, who died at his home in the Fourth ward, December 6, 1900, was born in Trumbull Co., Ohio, August 24, 1817. January 8, 1839, he was married to Miss Martha Jones. To this union were born two daughters and one son; Mrs. Harry Counsell of this county, Ammon Rice of Douglas, Wyoming, and Mrs. Martha Fesenden of Brown Co., Dakota.
In 1846 the mother of this household was stricken down in death, and a year following, Mr. Rice was married to Miss Sarah Wilson of Trumbull, Co.
Six children were born to this latter union;
Chas. Rice and Mrs. W. M. Howard of Douglas, Wyoming, John and Arthur Rice, Mrs. Blanche Madison and Mrs. W. J. Smith of Osage.All the children are now living. Mr. Rice came to this county in 1858 and moved onto a farm two miles north of Osage, where he lived until 1888, when he moved to Osage, since which time he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Smith. Besides the sons and daughters, there are
thirty grand children, and fourteen great-grandchildren left to mourn the death of the aged patriarch.
