Evelyn Ruth (Halverson) Brown, 92, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30th from Alzheimer's disease.
Funeral services for Evelyn Brown were held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2006 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa. Pastor Dennis Hansen officiated. Burial was in Rock Creek Cemetery rural Osage.
Evelyn was born in St. Ansgar, Iowa on September 27, 1914, graduating from Osage High School. She then attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, getting a teaching certificate and beginning a 29 year teaching career in rural one-room school houses in St. Ansgar, Rock Creek, and Knoxville. She also taught in Cedar Falls, Iowa; Roseville, Minnesota; Latimer, Iowa; and Marble Rock, Iowa.
In 1942 Evelyn met Perry Brown in Des Moines and they were married three months later on September 19, 1942. After WW II they settled in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area and had four daughters. While teaching and raising her family, Evelyn continued her education finally achieving her B.A. from Iowa State Teacher's College in 1961. Evelyn was always very active in the Lutheran Church in women's organizations, teaching Sunday school, leading bible studies, prayer groups, and supporting her Pastor husband. Evelyn's faith in God was the base for everything in her life. Mother was "Super Woman" before there was a name for it.
Evelyn is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Reverend Perry Brown; two daughters, Perilyn Ruth Brown Olsen, and Solveig (Bruce) Swanson; six grandchildren, Rebecca, Eric, Andrew, Meghan, Christopher, and Brandon; one great-grandson, Ian; and a sister Jeanette (Kermit) Halverson.
Evelyn was preceded in death by two daughters, Carla Brown-Dukes and infant daughter, Paula Jean; three sisters, Olga Halverson, Milly Neuberger, and Marian Smalley; three brothers, Harold, Conrad, and Bentley Halverson.
