A Pioneer Called Home

Mrs. L. G. Munson departed this life at Roseburg, Oregon, August 7, 1901 where she in the company with her husband and daughter, Mrs. Anderson, had gone to visit relatives five weeks previous. Mrs. Munson's last illness was of short duration--only a few days, but all that devoted hearts and willing hands could do was of no avail, her feeble constitution gave way, and husband and daughter had the sad mission of bearing all that was mortal of the dear one back to the old home, arriving here Sunday night.

Mrs. Munson's maiden name was Ann Downs {Downes}, and she was born in Albany, N. Y., July 15, 1832. She came to Allamakee county, Iowa at an early day and was married to Levi G. Munson, Oct. 28, 1855. In 1856 they came to Wayne township, Mitchell county, where they have lived continuously ever since.

Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Munson - two dying in infancy; the other A. T., G. A., Mrs Allie Beebe, Mrs Emma Waters, and Mrs. Etta Anderson, are all residents of this place and vicinity.

The deceased was gentleness and kindness itself, and "to know her was to love her," and not only was she a loving and faithful wife and mother, but a true friend and kind neighbor. Her large circle of friends have many cherished memories of her kind helpfulness, especially in the hour of trouble.

In these later years she found great comfort and delight to the worship and service of the church and was always deeply interested in the success of the Lord's work. She is the first one to be taken from the "Bible Class" in the Sunday School to which she belonged. She will be missed very much - in the home circle, in the church and in the community - but the thought of the glad welcome she would receive on the "other shore," may be of some comfort to the sorrowing here left to mourn. The funeral was held at the Congregational church Monday at 1 o'clock p.m. conducted by pastor, Rev. N. L. Packard. The remains were laid to rest amid flowers which typified the beautiful life she lived, and evergreens which typified life everlasting - the reward for a life so lived.
