Funeral Services for Paul M. Kolbet, 88, of Osage, Iowa, and formerly of Cresco, Iowa, were held on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at the Notre Dame Parish-Assumption Worship Center, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both at Cresco, Iowa.

Paul died on Friday, July 28, 2006 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa.

Paul M. Kolbet was born on September 30, 1917, on a Chickasaw County farm, near Alta Vista, Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Mary (Ravers) Kolbet. He was educated at St. Williams grade and high school in Alta Vista and graduated from Iowa State College (now University) in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II -- prior to graduating from college.

On May 24, 1944, he was united in marriage to Geneva G. White at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Alta Vista, Iowa. He moved to Cresco in the fall of 1944 to become manager of the Farmer's Cooperative Creamery Assn. He received his Securities License in 1959 and then took the NASD test at the University of Minnesota. This license he has held ever since. In 1964, he joined J.E. O'Donnell in the real estate business, which he continued as Paul Kolbet Real Estate until his retirement in 2005. In 1961 he and others promoted and built Cresco Pellets, Inc which was later sold to Cargill, Inc. in 1967.

He was a member of Notre Dame Parish--St. Joseph's Church, serving on the church council, he served on the board of directors of the Cresco Country Club, he served on the Junior Chamber board, he was district chairman of the Boy Scouts. Paul was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters serving many years as the juvenile director, the American Legion, and the Local, State, and National Associations of REALTORS.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Leonard, Nicholas, and Joseph, and by one sister, Leone Lentz.

Survivors include his wife Geneva of Osage; his two daughters, Kathryn Karrigan of Hainesville, Illinois, and S. Joyce Kolbet of Mankato, Minnesota; his two sons, Kevin (Janean) and Philip (friend, Linda Kuehne and daughters, Bradie and Jacey Kuehne), all of Osage, Iowa; his four grandchildren, Michelle (Andy) Ptasienski, Kathleen Karrigan, Kyle and Karen Kolbet; five great-grandchildren, Joey, Jackson, Abraham, Andersen, and Maddux Ptasienski, and two sisters: Evelyn Adams and Marie Gebel, both of Elma, Iowa.
