Obituary for Marvin Brandt - April 1932
The community was shocked Friday by the death of Marvin Brandt, 14 year old son of Mr. & Mrs. Fred Brandt, of northwest of St. Ansgar, Iowa. He was a student at Otranto high school.
Frederick Marvin Brandt, only son of Fred E. Brandt and Ella, nee Schmidt, was born March 5, 1917, at St. Ansgar, Iowa. On March 25, 1917, he was baptized at the home of his parents.
As he grew up, he attended school at Carpenter and Otranto and helped his father with such work on the farm as he could do.
His health at times failed him on account of a rheumatic condition. Last Monday an infection on a finger, together with pain in the shoulder, and an abnormal temperature, gave him considerable trouble. Thinking the sore finger was the cause of his trouble, his parents took him to a doctor to have it lanced. On Tuesday morning he was back in school; but by noon he was too sick to continue and was then taken to the hospital at Austin where his case was diagnosed as rheumatic fever, affecting the heart.
In spite of all human efforts, his condition grew worse, and his end came peacefully Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock.
Marvin had reached the age of 14 years, 11 months and 21 days. He is survived by his parents and a sister.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Immanuel's Lutheran Church and cemetery, the Rev. Paul Brammer officiating.
Card of Thanks: We herewith express our appreciation and thanks to all our friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted in word and deed in the days of our bereavement and sorrow; also to the choir and the pastor for their messages of comfort. F.E. Brandt & family
