Funeral services for Leona Caroline Warrington, age 91, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, were held on Monday, May 1, 2006, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, with Rev. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial was at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell.
Leona died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa.
Leona was born March 20, 1915, at the family home in rural Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of E. A. and Martha (Eske) Schallock. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rock Township. Leona attended school at Rock Township number five. She worked at Mueller's Cafe in St. Ansgar for a number of years.
Leona was united in marriage to Leonard Warrington on February 16, 1936 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. Leonard and Leona farmed in the Mitchell County area until Leonard's death on December 4, 1972. Leona continued to live on the farm south of Mitchell until June 1999 when she suffered a stroke. After hospitalization she was transferred to Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Ansgar where she was a resident until the time of her death.
Leona was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and was active in her church circle, St. Ansgar Senior Citizens Center and her local Birthday Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leonard; five brothers, Lawrence, Lavern, Clarence, Emil Schallock and an infant brother Orville; and a sister Elsie Hyland.
Leona is survived by a sister, Olga Anderson of Orchard, Iowa; a brother, Lloyd Schallock and his wife Phyllis of New Haven, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Mary Schallock and Eleanor Schallock both of Osage; and many nephews and nieces.
Arrangements were made by Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
