Robert Francis Streit, 82, of Stacyville, Iowa, died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, April 26th, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial was in Visitation Cemetery.
Robert (Bob) was born in Ashton, Iowa, on August 8, 1923 to Anthony and Mary Streit. He attended and graduated St. Joseph's Elementary and High Schools in Ashton. He was an Ensign in the Navy Air Corps during World War II and returned to farming after the war.
He married Barbara J. Scheltens on July 12, 1947 at St. Cyprian's Catholic Church in River Grove, Illinois. They farmed near Ashton, Iowa until 1955 when they moved to Stacyville. In addition to farming there, he was a dealer for Archer Oil Co. He retired from farming in 1989 and was a realtor for a short time.
For many years, he was active in Visitation Church, including serving as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council President, and the Knights of Columbus, until due to the affects of Parkinson's Disease, he was no longer able.
He was a member of the American Legion, serving as Commander at one time. He served on the boards for the Cedar Valley Electric Cooperative and Dairyland Power for a number of years; and was a charter member of the Iowa Cattlemen's Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Stacyville; by six sons: David (Sheila) of LeRoy, Minnesota, Robert (Becky) of Grand Junction, Colorado, Joseph (Lori) of Dubuque, Iowa, Peter (Karen) of Rochester, Minnesota, Philip of Stacyville, and Andrew (Judy) of Rochester, Minnesota; and two daughters, Rose Pins and friend Matthew Wallace of Watauga, Texas and Julie Van Erp and friend Dave Regenscheid of Faribault, Minnesota; by five brothers: Donald (Marge) of Storm Lake, Iowa, Leonard (Luella) of Sibley, Iowa, Tony (Mary Ann) of Fort Collins, Colorado, Paul of Terrance, California, and Jim (Phyllis) of Milford, Iowa; and by three sisters: Marion Sheforgen of Racine, Wisconsin, Kathleen Richter of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Betty DeWall of Omaha, Nebraska; 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
