AGED ST. ANSGAR MAN IS DEAD

Colbjorn Hanson, Eight-Nine Years Old, Came to
County With Clausen Colony in 1853

One of the unusal men of the county passed away on Wednesday of last week in the person of Colbjorn Hanson, who had reached the extreme age of 89 years. He had been ill for a period of about ten years.

Mr. Hanson came to St. Ansgar with the famous and revered Clausen colony in June 1853, and his death leaves only three of that colony as survivors of the first settlers in Mitchell county.

In 1852 Rev. C. L. Clausen, a Norwegian minister, arrived with some of his countrymen from Wisconsin and made claims on the Cedar river where St. Ansgar now stands. They returned to Wisconsin, but came back as permanent settlers in June of the next year, as stated above, Mr. Hanson having been a member of that colony. What a transformation those old settlers have witnessed.

Mr. Hanson leaves to mourn his death his widow, Julia Hanson; his sons George Hanson of Marian, N. Dak., Henry E. Hanson, Halvor Hanson and daughter Mrs. H. K. Hanson of St. Ansgar, besides numerous grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted in the First Lutheran church at St. Ansgar Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
