Mrs. Johanna Christianson

Born March 24, 1842
Died March 7, 1915

Mrs. Johanna Christianson passed away at her home in Rock Creek district Sunday morning March 7.

She was born in Norway, March 24, 1842 and there baptized and confirmed in her Christian faith.

She was married to Andreas Christianson.

They came to America in 1869 and began the foundation of their home in the Rock Creek settlement of Mitchell county. She was the mother of eight children six of whom survive her. They are Peter and Andrew who live at home. Christ and John on live on nearby farms. Mrs. Victor Julin of Blooming Prairie, Minn., and Theodore who lives in North Dakota. Funeral services were held March 9, and were conducted by Rev. J. A. Urnes. The five sons and the son-in-law were the pallbearers. The body was laid to rest near the Lutheran church where she was a faithful worshiper.

Johanna (Jennie) Petersdatter was born March 24, 1842 at Aadalen, Hval, Buskerud, Norway to Gunhild Aslagsdatter Rust (Roste) and Peder Jonsen (Johansen).

Johanna married Andreas (Andrew) Christianson on March 2, 1869 at Buskerud, Norway. Marriage record found in the Norwegian Digital Archives for Adal, Buskerud, Norway, 1857-1883, page 485, entry #3. Andreas age 22 and Johanne age 25. Andreas' father: Kristian Mikkelsen. Johanne's father: Peder Johnson. Witnesses: Erik and Helge Kristofferson. Andreas living at Heen and Johanne living at Hvalseie.

The couple emigrated the same year (summer of 1869) to Mitchell County, Iowa accompanied by Johanna's son, Peter and her mother Gunhild (who died 1902 at Mitchell Co, Iowa)

Johanna had one son before marrying Andrew. He was Peter Christianson (b December 6, 1864 at Aadalen, Ringerike, Buskerud, Norway, d June 13, 1924 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa). Andrew raised Peter as his son, no proof he adopted him.

The couple had seven children who all used the surname Christianson:
Caroline (b 1869 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa, d before 1880 at same);

Ole Christian (b September 15, 1871, d October 20, 1958 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);

Anton Andrew (b 1875 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa, d unknown);

Johan Andrew (b October 27, 1876 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa, d September 22, 1922 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa);

Edward Andrew (b January 31, 1879 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa, d November 26, 1949 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);

Theodore Martin (b September 14, 1881 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa, d January 18, 1964 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa) and

Anna Gustava (b June 18, 1885 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, d September 3, 1975 Minnesota.

1870: Andrew Christianson 25, Joeanna Christianson 28, Peter Christianson 6, Caroline Christianson 1, Herman Jones 1.

1880: Andrew Christiansen 34, Jenny Christiansen 38, Peter Christiansen 16, Ole Christiansen 8, Anton Christiansen 5, John Christiansen 3, Andrew Christiansen 1, Hans Christiansen 56, Gundel Christiansen 68.

1885: Andrew Christianson 42, Jennie Christianson 45, Peter Christianson 20, Ole Christianson 13, John Christianson 8, Andrew Christianson 6, Theodore Christianson 3, Julia Gilbertson 73. *****

Found in the 1895 - 1910 censuses living on a farm at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1895: Jennie Christianson age 53.

1900: Andris Chrestianson 57, Johann Chrestianson 58, Ole C Chrestianson 27, Endrew Chrestianson 21, Theodor M Chrestianson 18, Annie G Chrestianson 14, Gunhild Hanson 87.

1910: Andrew Christianson 67, Jennie Christianson 68, Peter Christianson 45, Edmund Christianson 25. *****Johanna Christianson died on March 7, 1915 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

There is a memorial for her at Find a Grave #49814499.
