Myron Cummings,
Old Resident,
Dies at Coonradt Home

Myron Gilbert Cummings, son of Charles and Asenath Cummings, was born March 18, 1854, in Dane County, Wis., and died May 19, 1932 at Colwell, Iowa.

Mr. Cummings came to Iowa with his parents some sixty-seven years ago. For the past sixty-one years, with the exception of a few years spent in Minnesota, he has been a resident of Mitchell County, living for many years on his farm north of Osage.

Forty years ago he was married to Nellie Featherstone, who, after a few short years of happy married life, died and their infant daughter soon followed the mother.

Later Mr. Cummings married Lucy Graves and from this union are the two living children, Rachel, now Mrs. Lee Coonradt, of Colwell, and son, Charles, who is at present making his home with his sister.

Soon after the birth of the son the mother was called by death leaving Mr. Cummings with the care of two small children.

There was also an adopted daughter, Florence, who married Charles Nicholson. She died some seven years ago leaving a family of children.

Mr. Cummings had assisted in their care, and especially made a home for the grandson, Russell Nicholson. Another grandson, Kenneth Coonradt; a sister, Mrs. Hattie Edge; three brothers, William F.; Henry and Harry all living in this vicinity also survive. Mr. Cummings' death is the seventh in a family of brothers and sisters.

The deceased has been for many years a member of the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church.

His last illness was of ten weeks duration. All that medical aid and care could do to alleviate his suffering was done for him at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, with the son, Charles, and others giving kindly assistance. Their grief is lessened by the knowledge that a loving, kind-hearted father has found relief from pain and suffering.

The funeral was held at the Champion funeral home Sunday afternoon, May 22, with the Rev. Carrie Lucas, of the Congregational church of Colwell, in charge. Music was furnished by a quartet from the Colwell church. Pallbearers were six nephews of the deceased, Will, Oliver, Gilbert and Ray Cummings, and John and Robert Edge.

Burial was made in the family lot in Osage.
