Last Friday the news came over the wire that "Grandmother Vanderpoel" as she had been familiarly called, was dead.

Her remains were brought to Mitchell on Monday p.m.'s train and taken directly to the M.E. church were the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thayer, of Osage, after which they were laid to rest by the side of her husband in Oak Grove cemetery.

The sorrowing friends have the sympathy of all the people of Mitchell in this their hour of affliction.

~Mitchell Co. Press, Thursday, March 21, 1889; pg 4 (Mitchell column)

Note: Wife of Capt. Abraham Vanderpoel, who died in 1874
