Dorothy A. Sponheim, aged 94 of St. Ansgar, Iowa died January 27, 2023 at North Iowa Hospice Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Visitation was held February 5 at Schroeder Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, Iowa

Funeral services were held February 6, 2023 at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar with Rev. Christopher Staley officiating. Burial was at First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Dorothy was born October 6, 1928 to Henry and Ida (Belz) Groth northeast of St. Ansgar on the Groth Farm. She graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1948. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar.

Dorothy married Harlan Sponheim on November 19, 1950 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar and to this union three children were born. She was active as a 4-H member and leader, the First Lutheran Church Women, and the lives of her children and grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her: three children, Dianne (Craig) Stange, Dennis (Bunita) Sponheim, Wayne (Anita) Sponheim; seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren with the nineteenth due in March. She is also survived by one brother Paul (Barb) Groth.

She was preceded in death by her: parents, husband Harlan in 2006; siblings Arlene Groth and Arnold Groth; in-law Gladys Groth; and in-laws Vernon and Agnes Gordon.
