BISHOP, CLOW, MCLAUGHLIN

The sad intelligence was received here Tuesday that Mrs. John Bishop had died that afternoon at 3 o'clock, at Anamosa, Ill., where she went last fall to have an operation performed for the removal of three tumors. The operation proved too much for her constitution and the shock was greater than she could bear.
Her daughter, Mrs. A. McLaughlin has been with her throughout her whole illness. Her remains will arrive today and will be buried in the city cemetery. Mrs. Bishop has been a resident of Osage for many years and her death will be a great blow to her many friends. Further particulars next week.

Mr. Archie McLaughlin went as far as Dubuque yesterday to meet his wife, who was on her way from Aurora, Ill., with the remains of her mother, Mrs. J. Bishop.

Mrs. John Bishop, one of the pioneer settlers of Mitchell county, has passed away. She died at Aurora, Ill., January 8, 1889, whither she had gone for the treatment of cancer.
Mrs. Bishop was born at Chatham Four Corners, Duchess county, N.Y. in 1819. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Clow. In 1842 she was married to John H. Bishop and in the spring of 1855 they moved to Mitchell county and a year later settled in Burr Oak township. Their nearest neighbor was John H. Wright, now living in Lincoln township.
In 1868 they moved to Osage and lived here fourteen years. From here they went to Fargo, Dak., and resided there three years, returning again to Osage where they have since resided.
Mrs. Bishop went to Aurora last all, but did not find the relief her friends had expected and hoped for. Her remains were brought to Osage last Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Bishop was a woman held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. She was a most faithful wife, devoted mother and an ever kind and good neighbor.
On Friday morning brief and impressive burial services were held in the Congregational church conducted by Rev. C.B. Moody. Interment was made in the city cemetery. She leaves a husband and three children to mourn her loss. Thus the old and sturdy pioneers one by one are laid to rest.

The obit of John H. Bishop (1813-1898) names his wife as Elizabeth Ingsol Clow. They are both buried in the Osage City cemetery.
