On last Wednesday evening at nine o'clock, death ended the sufferings of one of our most highly esteemed citizens, Mr. A.P. Golberg, after an illness of three years. His death came as a shock although it was not unexpected. Often during his long illness he would become very weak but with the courage and hope which had characterized his whole life he would win the hopeless battle for the time being and become much stronger and so his friends had hoped it might be during the latter part of his illness but it was not God's will and the grim destroyer claimed him at last.
Amos P. Golberg was born in St. Ansgar, February 1, 1861. He was the son of Peter and Bergit Golberg. At the age of fourteen years he was confirmed by Rev. J. Olson and became a member of the St. Ansgar Norwegian church. In 1875, he went to Minneapolis and entered the Auxberg Seminary, where he studied for two years and returning, then entered the Cedar Valley Seminary at Osage and remained one year. He then became an instructor in the St. Ansgar Seminary and Institute for a time and afterward entered the hardware business and later formed a partnership with A.N. Lund and dealt in lumber until he was chosen by the people of Mitchell County as Country Auditor in 1896, which office he competently filled until the breaking down of his health in 1898. he was obliged to resign his office and in July, 1899, went to Colorado in the vain hope of restoring his heath but he was soon filled with a homesick longing for his wife and children whom he adored and returned to his home after about six weeks absence.
He was married October 5, 1882 to Johanna Gustara Erickson, who died of consumption in 1888. On the tenth of June 1891, he was married to Miss Josephine Sveres. Three bright, lovely children blessed this happy union and they together with the fond wife, aged father and two sisters, Mrs. Dalager of Austin, and Mrs. A. N. Echburg of St. Ansgar are left without the cheer of association with him.
The funeral was held at the N.L. church on Saturday afternoon and was largely attended. Many beautiful floral designs were brought by friends. Rev. John Olson preached the funeral sermon and Rev. N.C. Bun of Lake Mills, made a few closing remarks. The remains were interred in the N.L. cemetery on the sunny hillside of north of town.

The correspondent for The Press from St. Ansgar gives in this issue an extended account of the death and funeral of Mr. Amos P. Golberg. Mr. Golberg has been a resident of the county since 1861 and has always been one of her prominent citizens. In 1896, he was elected to the office of county auditor, in which capacity he served until 1898 when ill health necessitated his resignation. For several years he has traveled in the west to take advantage of the climatic but for the last few years he has remained at his home in St. Ansgar. By his death Mitchell county loses one of its best ad oldest citizens.
