We are pained to mention the death of Mr. M. Nelson of this place, which occurred at their residence last Thursday afternoon. He has been a sufferer from apoplexy for the past seven weeks, and Tuesday evening before his death he became speechless. He was confined to the bed for almost a month, and suffered a great deal but bore it very patiently. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss. The funeral took place at home on Saturday and his remains interred in the North Rock cemetery. They have the heartfelt sympathies of all.

Mr. Nelson was also known as Mathias Nilsen Bjornhaugen. He was born on the Ovre Noss farm, Biridalen, Christians Amt (now Oppland county), Norway to Nils Ovensen and Maren Larsdatter. Mathias married Johanne Gulbrandsen Bakkum in 1866 in Biridalen, Norway. They were the parents of six children. Mathias and Johanne immigrated to America in 1877 with their three children and settled on a farm (section 11), Rock township, Mitchell county, Iowa. Mathias died on his farm.
