David S. Zacharias

Died: June 08, 2020

David Salvester Zacharias, age 72, of Stacyville, passed away Monday, June 8, 2020, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center.

Private family memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2020 at Prairie Lakes Church in Osage with Pastor Andy Schumacher officiating. Inurnment will be at Maynes Grove Cemetery rural Hampton, Iowa. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage.

David was born December 10, 1947, to Lavern and Margaret (Nelson) Zacharias. He graduated from Hampton High School and joined the Army in 1966. David was a Vietnam Veteran. After his tour of duty, he returned to Hampton and worked as a mechanic and attended the law Enforcement Academy.

In 1972, he moved to St. Ansgar where he had several jobs. He then worked as a police officer for the city of St. Ansgar and also Winnebago Industries in Forest City. David also worked as a police officer for the city of Stacyville until his retirement. He enjoyed his retirement “hobby” job at K&N Auto. Dave had a kind heart and his true love was helping anyone in need.

David is survived by his mother, Margaret Zacharias; significant other, Marlys Mueller of Stacyville; children, Carrie (Tait) Peterson of Garner, Karl (Sarah) Zacharias of St. Ansgar, Tammy Zacharias of Osage, Pam Zacharias of St. Ansgar, Stephanie (Rick) Sahr, Cory (Sara) Hamilton and Matthew (Michelle) Hamilton; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three brothers.

He was preceded in death by, his father and grandparents.
