Irene Angell

Irene Lillian Angell, age 90, of Osage, died Monday, June 1, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society in St. Ansgar.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2020, at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. A Funeral Mass will be held at a later date.

Irene was born July 9, 1929, at Jackson Junction, Iowa, the daughter of William and Anna (Krall) Voyek. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School in New Hampton.

Irene married Francis Heffron in Charles City in 1946. Francis passed away on May 11, 1988.

On June 16, 1990, she married Andrew Angell at Sacred Heart Church in Osage. He passed away March 30, 2014. While her children were growing up, Irene cooked for the nuns who were at Sacred Heart School and later cooked for several priests at Sacred Heart Church. She was then employed as the food service supervisor at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, worked as a cook at the Varsity Club Restaurant, and retired after working as a jailer at the Mitchell County Jail.

Irene was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Study Club, various Bible sharing groups, and was a member of the Third Order of Lay Carmelites in Charles City since 1962. She was also a member of the Osage American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries. Irene greatly enjoyed cooking.

Irene is survived by her son, Frank (Cindy) Heffron of Marshalltown and their children, Joshua of Shellsburg and Alyssa and her son, Joshua of Ames; her son, Larry Heffron of Johnston; step-daughters, Andrea (Larry) Dammen and Mary Beth Griffin, all of Osage; step-daughter-in-law, Kathy (Jim) Prokapec of Claremont, Minnesota; nine step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Sandy (Ken) Sanderson of Fort Worth, Texas, Gladys Slaughter of Evansdale, Frank Voyek of Janesville, Richard (Kay) Voyek of Kimberling City, Missouri, Shirley Rouse of Waterloo, George (Jan) Voyek of Waterloo, Edward (Lori) Voyek of Pensacola, Florida; sister-in-law, Helen Tubbs of Osage; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her daughter, Sue Heffron in 2009; brother, William Voyek; sister-in-law, Dorothy Voyek; and brothers-in-law, Delbert Slaughter, Ray Robinson and Ward Rouse; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their spouses, Marlow (Sonja) Angell, Rollin Tubbs; and stepson, Jack Angell; step-son-in-law, John “Griff” Griffin.
