BLUMENRADER.
Our deceased friend and neighbor, Daniel Blumenrader, was born in Wiesweiler in the Rhine Province, Prussia, Germany, on February 27, 1831. Soon thereafter he was baptized and in 1846 he was confirmed. He learned the profession of tailor, and shortly after this he decided to come to America. In April, 1852, he said farewell to his parents, his seven sisters and two brothers, and sailed for New York, going thence to Philadelphia, where for two and one-half years he followed his vocation of tailoring.
In October he, with friends, journeyed to Iowa where for eight years he worked out at various kinds of service.
On January 6, 1863, he was wedded to Caroline Yungk, daughter of the well known pastor, Carl Yungk. This union was blessed with three children, Anna Margaretha Baldner, Carl F. and Rosa Yungk, all of whom survive their father. After his marriage he took up farming, buying a farm in Winneshiek County and remaining there until 1895. After a five years residence here at the home of his son-in-law, he decided to go to Minnesota and bought himself a farm in Cottonwood County. Here he remained for two and one-half years, but, there being no church nearby, he again sold his farm and removed to Union Township, buying a small home where, with his wife, he has since lived in peace and contentment.
His was a quiet, retiring disposition. As long as he was able, he attended church, partook of communion, and was an earnest worshipper. Owing to advanced age he had become weak and sickly and or late years has been bed-ridden. Here he was often visited by his pastor and in these visits he took great pleasure and comfort. Shortly before his death he partook, of the Lord’s Supper. The last few days were days of great suffering but the Lord gave him strength to bear up. He was lovingly and tenderly nursed by his wife and children but his dear¬st wish was that he might go home, home to his Father. At last the Lord heard his prayer and on the evening of July 19th, he breathed his last.
His age was 80 years, 4 months and 17 days. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, three children, ten grand-children, six great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He rests in peace and may the Lord give him a joyous resurrection.—St. Ansgar Enterprise.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in St. Peter Cemetery in Toeterville in Mitchell County. The last name is spelled two different ways but the gravestone shows Blumenrader.
