Gunder Gundersen (Gunderson) was born September 20, 1795 at Numedalen, Rollag, Buskerud, Norway to Gunner Erichsen Traaen and Brigit Gundersdatter.

He was baptized October 18, 1795 at Traaen Sondre, Rollag, Buskerud, Norway. Birth/Baptismal records found at Norwegian Digital Archives for Rollag, Buskerud, Norway 1792-1814, pg 34, middle of page. Sponsors; Kristi Anstensdatter Traen; Gunnil Nielsdatter Asbojornrud; Andreas Sveningsen of Traaen; Gunnil Anstensen of Traaen; Live Olsen of Traen. Mother? Lutheran church

Gunder was confirmed on July 5, 1812 at Rollag. age 16 1/2.

Gunder married Liv (Live) Petersdatter on October 5, 1817 at Rollag, Buskerud, Norway. The couple had 9 children: Birgitte, Gunder, Joran, Peder, Joran, Knudt (Knud), Peder, Sigri, Erik.

Gunder, Live, Sigri and Erik left Norway in May/June to emigrate to Mitchell County, Iowa. Emigration record at Norwegian Digital Archives for Rollag, Buskerud, Norway 1847-1860 entries: Gunder Gunderson age 63 Bjerkjerden; Liv Pedersdatter (Gunderson) age 61; Sigri Gundersdatter age 20; Erick Gunderson age 16.

The family lived with a son Peder.

Gunder Gunderson died March 1880 at Newburg, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the First Luteran Cemetery at St. Ansgar, Mitchell County, Iowa. Cemetery records has "Grandpa" Gunderson 1795-1880.
