Obituary for Evelyn Noble
Evelyn Sue Noble, age 94 passed away peacefully on February 3, 2020 at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center with her family at her side.
Evelyn was born in Riceville on February 16, 1925, at the Riceville Maternity Hospital. Daughter of Victor and Fannie Fesenmeyer, she grew up on a farm near the Mossville corner west of Riceville and attended the rural Mossville one room schoolhouse with her 2 brothers Phil and Richard. In 1943 she graduated from Riceville High School then attended Luther College in Decorah Iowa for 1-semester.
Her parents asked her to help them move off the farm into town, so she moved back to Riceville and worked at the Riceville Recorder. Evelyn also worked for the Press Citizen newspaper in Iowa City for a short period before returning to Riceville to work for Doctor T.G. Walker.
On April 27, 1947 she married Russell Noble at the Little Brown Church in Nashua Iowa, a setting always near and dear to her heart. They lived on the Noble family farm west of Riceville until they moved back to town in 1965 when Russell entered the banking business. In 1968 they moved to LeRoy Minnesota and eventually retired to Rochester.
Traveling was in her blood as the family took many camping trips to Minnesota, Wisconsin and the mountains in Wyoming. They also traveled around the United States, Canada and China. Evelyn has a strong attachment to the Riceville Methodist Church, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and enjoyed playing bridge with many friends.
Evelyn loved to cook and hosted numerous family get togethers. Stories still abound with her Christmas tradition of baking dozens of decorated cookies to share with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Sarah, sons Stephen (Linda) and Richard; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Dixie Noble, JoAnn Noble and Alice Noble, brother-in-law Joe Noble and many nieces and nephews.
The family is very thankful for her loving care at the Care Center.
Memorial services will take place later this spring.
