Funeral services for a retired Osage businessman, Haaken F. Haakenson, 74, will be held Friday at 2 p.m.at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Osage. Mr. Haakenson had been ill for one year, and died at Veteran's hospital in Iowa City Monday morning. He was hospitalized intermittently throughout the year.
The Rev. Obert Hoven and the Rev. Ed Schlachtenhaufen, associate pastors will be in charge of the services. Arrangements are by C. R. Champion and Sons. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Haaken F.Haakenson was born Feb. 17, 1891, in Decorah, the son of Martin and Marie Jacobson Haakenson. He was graduated from high school in Decorah.
He entered the United States Army during World War I, serving in Europe with the heavy artillery, and remained in service about two years.
Mr. Haakenson and Netta Yager were married Sept. 23, 1928 at Spirit Lake, where he was manager of the Smith Lumber company for 10 years. On transferring to Osage he managed Smith Lumber company, later known as Annis-Ahrens Lumber company. He had managed lumber firms in Canada and in North and South Dakota before going to Spirit Lake. Following his retirement he managed Sunny Brae Country Club for two years and served as chairman of the Soldier's Relief in Mitchell County for three years.
Mr. Haakenson was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church, was church treasurer for many years and had served in various official capacities in the Men of the Church. He was a past commander of Osage American Legion Post 278 and was cited for his years of continuous membership and service. During his years as an Osage businessman he was active in the local Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Haakenson is survived by his wife, Netta, one son Richard and wife Lynn of Osage, one sister, Mrs. Elsie Madsen of Mankato and one brother Arnold Haakenson of Fremont. Ohio.
