February 28, 1924 - June 21, 2019
Jean Irvin passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center at the age of 95.
Jean Elizabeth Marr was born to Lloyd and Gladys (Hubbard) Marr on February 28, 1924 on the family farm near New Haven, Iowa. She came into this world weighing only 2 ½ pounds. She was placed on the oven door to stay warm in a small shoe box. This little girl began school at the age of four. She attended country school and later graduated from Riceville High School. She went on to Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids where she received her degree in accounting.
Jean met the love of her life, Dale Irvin, while roller-skating in Riceville. After a courtship of 6 weeks, they were married at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on March 5, 1946.
She spent her life helping on the farm and raising their three children. Jean enjoyed time outside tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a wonderful cook and baker (her famous cinnamon rolls were a special treat). Jean loved to play the piano; her hands would dance across the keyboard. She was a competitive card player and enjoyed crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She was also active in the Rosary Society and the Farmerettes Club.
Jean will be remembered for her kind and sweet soul and the love she had for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her three children; Carol Irvin (life partner, the late Sharon Stark) of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Larry (Clare) Irvin and Scott (Angie) Irvin both of Riceville, three grandsons; Jared Irvin of Riceville, Bryan Irvin of New Ulm, MN and David Irvin of Riceville, two great-grandsons, Owen and Killian Irvin of Riceville, one sister, Patricia Kelliher of Minneapolis, MN, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dale in 2003.
