Obituary for Marvel Mayer

Marvel Mayer, age 89, of Riceville, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa.

Marvel was born in Wayne Township [Mitchelll county] in Iowa, to Lewis and Stella (Hermanson) Roe. Marvel was united in marriage to William “Bill” Mayer in LeRoy, Minnesota, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on May 7, 1952.

Marvel worked at Austinsons Variety, Coast to Coast, D&E Carpet Sales, secretary for Bills Co-op, and the Riceville Schools Kitchen. Marvel was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Rosary Society, and Floweret Club. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, polka music, dancing, sitting on the front porch and watching her grandchildren play. She was loved and will be missed dearly by all.

Marvel is survived by four children: Ron Mayer (Shellie Swancutt), Sheila (Brad) Duenow, Laurie (Gary) Bahling, and David (Maggie) Mayer, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way; a sister, Norma Malcomson of Arizona, 3 sisters-in-law: Myrna Mayer of Oregon, Kathleen Hummel and Mary Shane, both of Riceville and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are parents: Lewis and Stella Roe; husband, William ‘Bill’ in 2009; a granddaughter, Darci; two brothers, Orville and Leonard; and a sister, Carol.
