John was born September 16, 1946, in Osage, Iowa, the son of William and Ada (Barber) Adams. A veteran of the Army, right out of high school, he returned to and spent his entire life in Stacyville, doing carpentry work alongside his father William. He took great pride in the work he did in the community on customer’s homes and would not hesitate to show it off. Later in life, he used his skills and traveled to New Orleans, to rehab homes with his church.
He was proud of his home he built on the shore of the Little Cedar River and enjoyed spending time there with his friends and family. His passion was the outdoors and most days you could find him driving “laps” around the river, searching for wildlife and visiting with the locals. Each year he looked forward to the annual deer and pheasant hunt and the fishing opener trip “up north”. On summer weekends, you could find him in the bleachers at Deer Creek and Lansing Speedway, enjoying dirt track racing.
John is survived by his sons, Terry (Tanya) Adams of Farmington, Minnesota, and Jeffrey (Beth) Adams of Niwot, Colorado; four grandchildren, Dylan, Kiersten, Maggie and Sam Adams; sisters, Joyce Buttolph Adams of Austin, Minnesota, Jody (Bill) Farris of Mason City, Janice (George) Trowbridge of Florida; brother, Jerome (Marilyn) Adams of Stacyville; sister-in-law, Mary “Pat” Adams of Chesapeake, Virginia; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James “Jim” and Joseph Adams; and a sister, June Carter Adams.
