Emma Lois Horsfall "Lois"
August 12, 1924 - October 11, 2018
Emma (Lois) Horsfall, 94, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home, Stacyville, Iowa.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct. 15, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating, at the Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, Iowa, with interment at St. Ansgar City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 4-6 pm at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar.
Lois was born August 12, 1924, in Duluth, Minnesota to Arvesta (Gannon) Trantanella and Ronald Myers and attended school in McIntosh, Minnesota. She preferred to be called Lois.
She enlisted in the U.S. Navy on January 15, 1945, and attended basic training in Bronx, NY. She was stationed at NAAS Bronson Field, Pensacola, FL, serving as a telegraph communications assistant. She was authorized to wear the World War II Victory Ribbon, and was honorably discharged on January 12, 1946 at the US Naval Separation Center, Great Lakes, Illinois.
Following her military service, Lois attended beauty school and worked in St. Paul, Minnesota.
She married Harvey C. Horsfall on May 29, 1948 at Holy Redeemer parsonage in St. Paul, Minnesota. They lived their entire married life of 66 years on their farm east of Carpenter.
Lois is survived by son, Stanley and Carol Horsfall of Mason City and their children Ryan (Stephanie) Horsfall, Katie Horsfall, and James (Abbi) Horsfall; daughter Linda and Sam Kruse of McIntire and their children Benjamin (Lori) Kruse, Brian (Lisa) Kruse, and Brooke (Erik) Haugen; son Harvey and Becky of Mason City and his children Rosalie (Aaron) Anderson and Jacqueline Horsfall (fiancé Adam Seiler). (Frank's children) Jenny (Nate) Canier and Elisha Horsfall (Thomas Ross); (Mary's children) Christine (Michael) May, Betsy (Geoff) Aker, Jeffrey (Holly) Freese and Joseph (Brandie) Freese; 29 great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harvey, in 2015, son Edward in 1954, daughter Mary Kay Freese in 2003, son Frank in 2013, and great-grandson Jon Horsfall in 2015. Her brother Frank Trantanella, and sisters Elaine Schuster, Faye Ruedy, and Carol Jensen.
