February 1, 1929 - June 17, 2018

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA – Leonard died June 17, 2018, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Visitation will be Thursday, June 21, 2018, At Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, Iowa, from 4-6 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2018 at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, at 1 pm. Interment will follow the service, at the St. Ansgar City Cemetery, with a luncheon immediately after, at the First Lutheran Church parish center.

Leonard was born at home in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa on February 1, 1929 to LeRoy and Agnes (Sampson) Amundson. He was the second of 4 children, and attended county schools before graduating from high school in Hanlontown. He met his wife, Mary Lou (Rockafellow), shortly before leaving to serve in the army during the Korean War.

After he returned, he and Mary Lou were married in Chicago, in February, 1953, and celebrated their 65th anniversary, before Mary Lou's death in May, 2018. He farmed and worked several other jobs during his life, including almost 30 years at the Oliver\White Farm Equipment plant in Charles City. He was an avid fisherman, and had a passion for genealogical research, among other interests.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou, his parents, Agnes and LeRoy Amundson, and his sister, Hazel (Russel).

He is survived by his brothers, Chester (Wilma) and Howard, his children, Michael (Cynthia), Lewis (Jaime), James (Dennise), and Donna (Mark) Mueller, as well as grandchildren, Joshua, Samantha (Robert) Holden, Robert, Alex, Patrick, and Emerald, and great-grandson, Everett (Holden).
