April 10, 1930 - June 12, 2018
ST. ANSGAR, IOWA – Grace Marie Nelson, 88, of St. Ansgar, died June 12, 2018. A funeral service will be on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Squire officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
Grace Marie Nelson was born April 10, 1930, in Riceville, Iowa, to Ralph and Edith (Powell) Duncomb. She was the oldest of their eight children.
After high school graduation, Grace attended Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. She instructed classes in Northwood and in Cresco and also substituted in St. Ansgar.
Grace met her husband LaVerne in the summer of 1956. They wed the following year on June 2, 1957, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar where Grace remained an active member. They made their home on a farm near St. Ansgar and were blessed with three sons, Kenneth, Russell, and Alan. Grace enjoyed farming along side her husband and boys, helping with field work and chores. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening, playing cards, and traveling. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends.
Grace is survived by her husband of 61 years, LaVerne. Her sons, Kenneth (Karen) Nelson, Russell (Kari) Nelson, and Alan (Sheryl) Nelson. Her seven grandchildren, Joshua (Sarah), Lucas (Deneen), Jordan, Gayle, Jacob, Maria, and Leah. And her five great grandchildren, Liv, Gram, Kyla, Genevieve, and Garrett. She is also survived by five of her brothers and sisters.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Kenneth Duncomb and his wife Marlene; and sister Laura Halverson and her husband Harvey.
