Service: A funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.
Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 with a Scripture Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Saturday.
Darlene was born on March 23, 1941 to Oscar and Anna (Popp) Meitner in Osage, Iowa. After graduating from Osage High School, she was married to Mel Elliott on July 2, 1960. Soon after they started their family and were blessed with two sons, Steve and Jerome. Mel and Darlene began farming in Osage, Iowa where they resided for seven years. At that point Mel and Darlene moved to Storm Lake, Iowa where Mel began selling insurance for State Farm Insurance and Darlene worked at Production Credit Association.
After one year she started working with her husband in the State Farm office. They worked side by side in his office until Mel's retirement in 1997.
After her husband retired, she and Mel began spending winters in Mesa, Arizona. They enjoyed life in Arizona so much they eventually moved there completely. While living there she began doing pottery, golfing with her husband and making friends wherever she went.
Darlene was a wonderful mother to her two sons and was very family oriented. She loved to golf, cook and spend time with her extended family. She enjoyed genealogy, spending many hours doing research into her family history and documenting this research for future generations. She created scrapbooks for each of her grandchildren, documenting her time with them as they grew up.
Darlene is survived by her son, Steve Elliott (Lori); son, Jerome Elliott (Liete); and grandchildren: Kyle, Thomas, Sarah and Ryan Elliott. She is also survived by her sister, Marcella Voight; brother, Gerald Meitner (Charlotte); and brother, Leo Meitner (Lorraine).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Anna Meitner; husband, Mel on January 31, 2018; and a brother-in-law, Jim Voight.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
