October 2, 1989 - April 20, 2018

Shane Wiltse, 28, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 20, 2018 due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

A celebration of Shane's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City with Pastor Russ Leeper officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City, Iowa.

A combined gathering of family and friends with the family of Jake Mahnesmith will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Shane's gathering will continue one hour prior to his service in Charles City on Thursday.

Shane Allen Wiltse was born October 2, 1989 in Osage, Iowa, the son of Randy and Minessa (DeVries) Wiltse both of Charles City. Shane was active in athletics and was a member of the Charles City wrestling, football, and baseball teams before his graduation from Charles City Community High School in 2008. Upon graduation, Shane enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served from 2010-2015 until he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant and remained an inactive reserve until 2017. He served two tours during his enlistment in Afghanistan (2012) and Okinawa, Japan (2015).

While enlisted in the Marine Corps, Shane married his high school sweetheart Lindsay Aspholm in San Diego, California on March 16, 2012. Shane and Lindsay celebrated the birth of their first child, Sawyer Allen Wiltse, on January 14, 2014. Upon discharge, Shane and Lindsay moved back to the Charles City area to be closer to family, eventually settling in the Marble Rock area in 2015 where he began a successful career with Valent Biosciences. A second child, Avery Mae Wiltse, was welcomed soon after on December 21, 2015.

Shane was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed turkey, duck, and goose hunting as well as riding and working on motorcycles. A sports fan, Shane also loved cheering on the Green Bay Packers and Boston Bruins. Shane will be greatly missed by his friends and family as he was very much loved and known to be the fun uncle who enjoyed wrestling with his kids, nieces, and nephews.

Shane leaves behind his beloved wife, Lindsay (Aspholm) Wiltse of Marble Rock; son, Sawyer and daughter, Avery; parents, Randy and Minessa Wiltse of Charles City; brother, Tyler and sister, Ashley both of Charles City; grandmother, Cheryl DeVries; father and mother-in-law, Scott Aspholm and Brenda Abrahamson; two sisters-in-law: Becky (DJ) Borkovec of Iowa City and Brianna (Justin) Bahnsen of Des Moines; and many loved nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Orme and Loretta Wiltse and his maternal grandfather, Larry DeVries.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
