OBITUARY
Margaret Young was born September 18, 1830 in Madrid, St. Lawrence County, New York, and died at St. Ansgar, Iowa November 17, 1905. She spent her youth in her native state. On the 8th of February, 1866, she was united in marriage to Thomas H. Hume. Soon they sought a home in the West and settled at St. Ansgar. Thus for nearly forty years she lived in this community. Her husband died August 24, 1896. One daughter, Margaret F. Died May 19, 1886. Two sons, Thomas H. and James H., survive her.
In her early years, Mrs. Hume united with the Presbyterian church and her friends and family bear witness to her faith, fidelity to the truth and Christian character. She was a true wife, a loving mother and a kind neighbor. In a quiet unassuming manner she did well her part in life. She attained a good old age and her children could call her blessed. She had been sick for several months and on Friday evening she quietly fell asleep.
The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the family residence under the direction of Rev. W.W. Gist of Cedar Falls. A large number of friends and neighbors, many of the aged, were present to pay their tribute of respect to one whom they had known so long and so favorably.
