Walter Intorf peacefully passed away in Osage on February 19, 2018 at the age of 92. He was surrounded by a loving family who cherished each moment they could share with him.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. Inurnment to follow at the Osage Cemetery, with military honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278. There will be a gathering of family and friends at Trinity Lutheran Church from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Walter was born November 5, 1925, in St. Ansgar, the son of Henry and Agnes (Miller) Intorf. He attended school in Osage, leaving his junior year to join the Army Air Corps in 1943. Walt trained to be a pilot and began a life-long passion for speed and flying planes that later evolved into making meticulous models of the planes he flew in World War II and barnstorming events in the 1950’s.
He was employed by his father’s plumbing business after the war, and later by Foth Plumbing in Osage. On October 4, 1948, Walter was united in marriage to Alice Wagner at Sacred Heart Church in Osage. Alice died June 21, 2001. Walter was united in marriage to Marci Heiden on August 18, 2002.
Walt was an avid golfer and member of the Sunny Brae Country Club for many years. He was life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage, and an active member of the American Legion Post 278. Walt was a master craftsman of furniture and a clock maker. He collected antiques with the emphasis on toys. He was truly God’s gift to all who knew him, and an inspiring example of what it means to be a kind and noble Christian gentleman.
Walter is survived by his wife, Marci of Osage; daughter, Jane (Tim) Niess of Des Moines; son, Walter Steven (Marcia) Intorf of Delhi; stepdaughter, Karla (Dave) Flemming of Monterey, California; stepson, Kim (Karen) Heiden of Maple Grove, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Tonia (Eric) Land, Matt (Cara) Pederson, Chad Intorf, Kara (Sean) Meloy and Bryce (Heather) Intorf; seven step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 12 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Alice (Wagner) Intorf; and two sisters and brothers-in law, Gladys (Alton) Grap and Delores (Norman) Christiansen;
