Elaine M. Dierks, 92, of St. Ansgar, died on September 4, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar. Funeral service will be on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar with Rev. Christopher Staley officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service at the church. Schroeder and Site Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Elaine was born on March 29, 1925 and baptized at Bloomfield, NE the daughter of John and Emma Schmeckpepper Barker. Elaine attended schools in Bloomfield, NE and Northwood, Iowa.

Elaine Marie Barker was united in marriage to George V. Dierks on March 12, 1943 in Denver, Colorado. After George's military service, Elaine and George farmed near rural St. Ansgar from 1946 until 1969 and were members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton Iowa.

Following farming, Elaine and George moved to St. Ansgar, became members of First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, and George worked for Cedar Valley Electric Coop until retirement in 1977 due to his health. Elaine was a stay at home mom, raising 6 children. She enjoyed finding new recipes for cooking and crafty sewing especially crocheting and needle point where she did a beautiful wall hanging of "Footprints in the Sand".

She worked in the kitchen of the Good Samaritan Home, St. Ansgar for a few years. Later she sold her house and moved to an apartment in Osage where she continued crocheting making many afghans for her children and grandchildren as well as giving some to nursing home residents.

When she moved to Guttenberg, Iowa, Elaine crocheted numerous baby caps for the Guttenberg Hospital as honored in the Guttenberg newspaper and made many other crafts for Christmas gifts.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, George, maternal and paternal parents, a baby daughter and granddaughter, a niece, three brothers, three sisters, three brother-in-law, one sister-in-law and a nephew.

Surviving are Duaine (Myra) Dierks of St. Ansgar; Sharon (Darrell) Hilsman of Zealand, MI; Eldon ( Cheryl) Dierks of Black River Falls, WI; David (Belinda, deceased) ISA; D. Scott (Nancy) Dierks of Northwood, Iowa. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, three sister-in-law, Betty Barker (Bob), LaVonne Kierks (Paul), Anna Feley (Morris) and many nieces and nephews.
