April 30, 1927 - January 4, 2018

Osage, Iowa - Nelwyn ("Nell") Nelson Jahncke, 90, passed away on January 4, 2018, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Cremation has taken place. Services for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Nell was born April 30, 1927, in Ruston, Louisiana, to John Willis and Rosa (Riser) Nelson. She married Warren Ernest Jahncke of New Orleans, Louisiana on June 26, 1948. Nell spent most of her adult life with Warren in Atlanta, Georgia, until his death in 1994. She moved to Osage in July 2011 to be close to her son Ken and family.

Nell's sense of humor and mischievous laugh were contagious. She enjoyed sewing, spending time as a wedding gown seamstress and making clothes for her granddaughters. Nell loved entertaining and cooking with Warren while hosting many holiday celebrations and parties.

As an active member in The First United Methodist Church of Sandy Springs, Georgia, she volunteered often serving in many roles. Their mutual love of birds and wild flowers lead Nell and Warren on many adventures in the north Georgia mountains and Smokey Mountains. Family was important to Nell, making frequent trips to her parents and in-laws in Louisiana and to Iowa to visit her granddaughters. She adored her daughter-in-law, granddaughters and great grandchildren.

Nell is survived by her sons; Steven Jahncke of Owing Mills, MD and Ken (Linda) Jahncke of Osage; a granddaughter, Keenan (Korey) Beemer of Granger; a step-granddaughter, Traci Grivna (Brian) Rood of Mason City; seven great-grandchildren: Hudson, Leighton, Beaudin and Korbin Beemer of Granger and Jase, Lena and Eloise Rood of Mason City. As well as three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, father and mother-in-law: Otto and Olga Jahncke of New Orleans, Louisiana; brothers, Jack Nelson of Winnsboro, Louisiana, Billy Nelson of Franklinton, Louisiana and Loy Nelson of Ruston, Louisiana and sister Edna DeFreese of Ruston, Louisiana.
