Obituary for Rita H. Thompson
Rita Hildagard (Kohles) Thompson age 90, of Riceville, passed away at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center in Riceville on Thursday August 31, 2017.
Rita was born October 3, 1926 at a farm near Meyer, Iowa, the daughter of George Kohles and Mary Emig Kohles.
She was married to James Carl Thompson on February 18, 1946 at St John’s Catholic Church in Rochester, Minn. To this union six children were born. Jim and Rita were married for 63 years. Rita grew up on a farm with her nine siblings and always talked about them going to church, dances and spending time together as a family.
Rita worked at the Riceville Rest Home for over 20 years. She was a member of the St. Anne Rosary Society and the American Legion Auxiliary in the past. Rita enjoyed spending time outside tending to her flowers, especially the rose bush she brought from her Mom’s house. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who meant the world to her.
She always looked forward to the family coming home for the holidays and enjoyed the day with all of them. Rita enjoyed listening to music and singing You Are My Sunshine. Rita was surrounded by family, friends and relatives in her final days.
Survivors are her children: Karen (William) Granahan of Stewartville, Minnesota, Betty (Wayne) Lubbert of Grundy Center, Iowa, James C Jr. (Nita) Thompson of Mesa, Arizona, William (Nancy) Thompson of Riceville and Robert Thompson of Riceville. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, and one sister, Anna Sullivan.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James in 2009; a daughter, Mary Ann Thompson; brothers, Alfred and Urban; sisters: Marcella, Lenora, Helen, Rose, Mary, and Stella; and a grandson, Christopher Thompson.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on September 5, 2017, at Immaculate Catholic Church in Riceville. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Monday, September 4, during the hours of 5-7PM.
