Child Killed at Osage by Auto

The seven-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Armstrong, who reside about a mile and one-half south of Orchard was run over by an automobile while in attendance at the Automobile Day celebration at Osage, Wednesday.

We understand the car was a Reo driven from Charles City for demonstration purposes. The driver had been warned to keep off the race course, but he gave no heed to the warning. Eye witnesses claim that he was going at a speed of 40 miles an hour when the little girl started across the track. The mother with the other children of the family were standing by and the father had just crossed over when the little girl started to follow.

The sight was something terrible as the child was struck by the front wheel of the car and was carried some distance by the rear wheel. The driver it is stated set brakes with remarkable presence of mind. The shock was so great he fainted away and it was necessary to place him under the care of a physician. Several fainted at the horrible presence. The bright and cheery atmosphere of a gala day was cast into gloom in an instant.

One of the eye witnesses to the accident was so terribly effected that he died a few hours afterward. The driver of the automobile is in a precarious condition and has been delirious since the mishap. His friends fear that his reason will not return. He has been taken to his home in Charles City. -— Mclntire Advocate.
