William “Bill” K. Squier, age 88, of St. Ansgar, died Thursday, April 13, 2017, at his home in St. Ansgar.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar with Rev. Dr. Rhoda Preston officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery with military honors at the grave by the Walter T. Enneberg American Legion Post 358 of St. Ansgar. There will be a time for lunch and the family will greet friends immediately following the inurnment, at the United Methodist Church.
Bill was born September 1, 1928, in Osage the son of Laurence and Hazel (Frank) Squier. He graduated from Osage High School in 1947. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Bill was united in marriage to Joyce Holm on October 9, 1955, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage. He owned several businesses throughout the years, including Squier Truckline and Squier Ready Mix. Bill drove truck for LR Falk Construction for 14 years. He was the Mayor of St. Ansgar for 13 years and served on the St. Ansgar City Council for numerous years. He also served on the Mitchell County Board of Supervisors for four years.
Bill was a former member of the Osage American Legion Post 278 and currently a member of the American Legion Post 358 of St. Ansgar and the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar. Bill enjoyed keeping busy, drinking coffee and visiting with friends at the Sportmans Lounge. He would do a lot of reading and would read two books a week. Bill enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Bill is survived by his wife, Joyce Squier of St. Ansgar; three children: Brad (Pam) Squier of St. Ansgar and their children, Cory (Andrea) Squier of Austin, Minnesota, Cody Squier of St. Ansgar and Katelyn Squier of St. Ansgar, Wendy (Ed) Hansen of St. Ansgar and their daughter, Jennie (Kevin) Hutchinson of St. Ansgar, Laura (Mario) Garza of Albert Lea, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Hayli Hutchinson, Jaden Hutchinson, Alyssa Squier and Peyton Squier; brother, Larry Squier of Floyd; sister, Phyllis Miller of Austin, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his father, Laurence Squier; mother, Mae (Frank) Squier; biological mother, Hazel (Frank) Squier; granddaughter, April Squier; two brothers, Keith Squier and Dean Squier; sister, Lillian (Squier) Adams.
