GRAFTON, IOWA — Dale William Trettin, 81, of rural Grafton, died on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Iowa, with Rev. Solveig Zamzow officiating.

Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Dale was born on March 17, 1935, to Roy and Orpha (Bruyn) Trettin near Grafton, Iowa. He attended school in Grafton, graduating from Grafton High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Dale married Coleen Waggoner on Nov. 25, 1961, at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter.

Dale loved farming. He was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, a member of the VFW as well as the American Legion. He enjoyed being an airplane pilot, going to old time dances, playing 500 as well as other card games. Dale loved to fish, traveling to Lake Sesaganaga, Canada, for 34 years to pursue his passion. He helped with Turkey Days in Grafton for many years. Dale was an Iowa Hawkeye supporter. One of Dale’s greatest joys were his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Phyllis Schmidt and Maxine Braun.

Dale is survived by his wife, Coleen of Grafton: daughter, Dawn (Dwane) Schutter of Titonka, Iowa, and son, Todd (special friend, Angie) of Grafton; four grandchildren, Kristen Schutter, Tiffani Schutter, Jacob Schutter and Kayleigh Trettin.
