Died February 3, 2017

Irene B. Adams, age 99, of Osage, died Friday, February 3, 2017, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday February 10, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery at New Haven. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage where there will be a rosary at 4:30 p.m.

Irene was born October 13, 1917, in rural Riceville, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Fritz) Steffen. She graduated from Riceville High School in 1934 and earned her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teacher’s College. Irene taught in country schools in Mitchell County for 12 years. She married Harold Adams on October 21, 1950, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven, Iowa. They farmed at two locations in Mitchell County and retired to Osage in 1984. Irene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Osage American Legion Auxiliary.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Mary Adams of Ames; three grandchildren, Jeff (Foy Spicer) Diesburg of North Manchester, Indiana, Adam (Emily) Diesburg of McMinnville, Oregon, and Steven Diesburg (Jessica Culhane) of Seattle, Washington; four great-grandchildren, J. Dashiell and J. Griffin Diesburg of McMinnville, Oregon, Fern and Lark Spicer Diesburg of North Manchester, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 2013; her daughter, Jayne Adams in 1972; two brothers, Leonard and James Steffen; and a sister, Marian Wynistorf.
