Obituary for Dean R. Mauer

Dean Robert Mauer, 84, of Riceville, Iowa passed away Saturday November 5, 2016 at his home with his family by his side.

Dean was born to Frank and Elizabeth Adams Mauer in Stacyville, Iowa on May 2, 1932. He graduated from Stacyville in 1950. He married Mary Jeanne Hemann on August 29, 1953, at the Stacyville Visitation Catholic Church. He was employed at the Stacyville Lumberyard until 1960. He moved to Riceville, Iowa and managed their lumberyard until 1987 when he purchased it along with the LP gas business.

Within the next several years he was an ambulance driver, city council member, Mayor for 24 years and member of the fire department for 47 years and Santa's special helper for many years. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, socializing at Fort Acme Deer Camp, playing cards, but most of all spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Jeannie of Riceville; his children: Vicki Howland of Riceville, Vivian (Larry) Goodbrand of Riceville, Denny (Barb Foster) Mauer of Riceville, Dave (Rosa) Mauer of Vinton, Karen (Mike) Hughes of New Hampton, and Ann (Greg) Kulow of Hampton; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brothers: Darwin (Marlene) Mauer of Denver, Danny (Dorothy) Mauer of Agency, Howard (Judy) Mauer of Waterloo, and Billy (Darla) Mauer of Charles City; many nieces and nephews and his dog Mandy.

He was preceded by his parents; one son Richard and one daughter Ann Marie; one sister; five brothers; two great-grandchildren; and son-in-law David Howland.
