Melvin Reding, age 87, of Stacyville, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be at Visitation Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Visitation Catholic Church or Stacyville Community Nursing Home.
Melvin, son of James and Anna (Gubbels) Reding, was born December 10, 1928, in Stacyville, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Bernice Mullenbach on November 23, 1950. They operated a store in Watkins, Iowa until 1954, and then farmed near Stacyville until 1980. Melvin spent most available time fishing with Bernice after retirement, as well as playing cards and traveling. He was an active member with the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters. He also was a member of American Legion Hale Penney Fuller Post 569 of Stacyville and served in the Marine Corps.
Melvin is survived by his children, Jo Ann (Albert) Farnham Jr. of Rochester, Minnesota, Douglas (Janet Crossley) of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Jan (Dan) Moretz of Hanlontown, Iowa, Richard (Gloria) Reding of Stacyville, Iowa, and Robert (Linda) Reding of Fort Madison, Iowa; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Anna (Ruben) Kramer of Dubuque, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; his parents; two sisters, Mary (Alfred) Pitzen and Alvina (Adrian) Brown; and one brother who passed away as an infant.
