William "Bud" Alke

Died August 10, 2016

William E. “Bud” Alke, age 90, of Osage, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa Emergency Room in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2016, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with Pastor Lance Kittleson and Pastor Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

William E. “Bud” Alke was born November 18, 1925, on a farm near Wesley, Iowa, the son of George and Anna (Assink) Alke. He was baptized and confirmed at the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka, Iowa. Bud later moved with his family to a farm near Titonka and attended country school in the area. He entered the U.S. Army in 1945 and participated in the occupation of Japan.

After his time in the service, Bud purchased Cities Service Gas Station in Titonka. On October 20, 1950, Bud married Lois Jansen at the Ramsey Reformed Church in Titonka, after which they began farming northeast of Titonka. They moved into Titonka in 1960 where Bud co-managed the Co-op Oil Company for four years. After moving to Osage in 1964, they were owner/operators of the Gamble’s Store for two years.

Bud then worked for North Iowa Hatcheries in Osage for five years until its closing. In 1971, Bud started working for Osage Community Schools, retiring in 1988. Bud was a previous member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka and was currently a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage. He enjoyed woodworking, puzzles, feeding the birds, and eating shrimp.

Bud is survived by two sons, Edward (Phoung) Alke of Yucca Valley, California and Darryll (Ann Dotson) Alke of West Liberty; one daughter, Kathy (Ben) Fuller of Bondurant; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ida Thacker of California and Mary (Rev. Alton) Schwandt of Kansas City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois Alke in 2014; brothers, George, Hank and John Alke; and sisters, Ann Radig, Christina Seegebarth, and Volina Michaelsen.
