Dixie Lee Abben, age 79, of Little Cedar, died Sunday June 26, 2016, at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center in Riceville.
Graveside inurnment services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Liberty Cemetery in Little Cedar with Pastor Jeni Bohl officiating. Following the inurnment, everyone is invited to a Celebration of Life service with lunch and fellowship at the Osage V.F.W. in Osage.
Dixie was born February 22, 1937, in Mason City, the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Wolske) Dunbar. She attended country school near New Haven and then Little Cedar High School. Dixie was united in marriage to Millard “Bud” Abben on December 15, 1956, in Cedar Rapids. She was a homemaker but had worked at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage and the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville. Dixie was a member of the Little Cedar United Methodist Church in Little Cedar. She enjoyed word search puzzles, T.V., playing cards and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dixie loved her geraniums and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Millard “Bud” Abben of Little Cedar; her daughter, Cheryl Barrett of Austin, Minnesota; her son, Bruce (Ruth Sandmeyer) Abben of Mason City; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Abben of Mason City; her eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren with one expected in the fall of 2016; her sisters, Ann (Dan) Bahnsen of Cedar Rapids and Martha (Raymond) Zuke of Mason City.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mari Jane Holcomb; her brother, Michael Dunbar; her son, Jeffrey Abben; and her grandson, Nicholas Duryee.
