Lynn G. Schwenneker

Died: May 16, 2016

Biography--

Lynn George Schwenneker passed away on May 16, 2016, one week before his 96th birthday, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, California. Lynn was the widower of Leona Vera Schwenneker, the two having shared 61 years together before her death in 2008.

Lynn was born in Anita, Iowa on May 22, 1920, to George and Ruth Schwenneker. Lynn moved to Burbank in 1940 and was drafted into the Navy on March, 3, 1943 and could spend hours reminiscing about his time in the service.

After the war, Lynn went to work for Lockheed Aircraft and it was at a Lockheed dance where he first met Leona. Lynn and Leona dated for 23 years (no, this is not a typo!) before they finally decided to get married in a private ceremony on November 27, 1970.

Lynn was a “Purveyor of Fine Junk” and eventually bought enough items to fill 4 garages. In his later years, he enjoyed the company of newfound friends at the McCambridge Senior Center where he ate lunch every weekday. He couldn’t cook a lick but he did know there was a hot supper and conversation waiting for him at local restaurants where he became a favorite customer of other patrons and staff alike.

Lynn had followed in his father’s footsteps and had become a Mason at an early age, his first Masonic Lodge 102 being one in Osage, Iowa. He renewed his commitment to the Masons and joined Lodge 406 in Burbank. One of his greatest accomplishments was being awarded the Masonic Hiram Award in 2012.

Everywhere Lynn went, he made friends. He would tell people “You can call me Lynn or Grandpa” and surprisingly, many people, even those his own age called him Grandpa. If asked if that bothered him, he would just smile and say that Grandpa was the greatest title in the world!

Lynn is survived by his grandchildren Gregg Hunemiller and his wife Brenda, Karen Ehlers and her husband Roger, Karla Riley and her husband Jeff, great-grandchildren Kasey Seldon and her husband Jason, Travis Riley and Breanna Riley.
