ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Maxine M. Bruggeman, 95, of St. Ansgar, passed away on April 8 at Good Samaritan in St. Ansgar.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville, with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Maxine was born October 5, 1920, in Mitchell County to Leo and Julia (Gartner) Adams. When she was nine days old her mother passed away. Maxine and sister, Alvina, were raised by her grandparents, Albert and Rose Adams. She was baptized at Visitation Catholic Church Stacyville. She was confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran in Toeterville. She attended Mitchell County schools. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran in Toeterville.
She married Lawrence Bruggeman on October 15, 1938. They farmed until 1969 when they moved to St. Ansgar. She spent many happy hours quilting with the ladies at the church and helping whenever she could with the church activities. She enjoyed making pies for family and friends. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria and Richard Brunner of Toeterville; three sons, Lawrence Jr. and Carol Bruggeman of St. Ansgar, Ron and Jeanne Bruggeman of Northwood and Dar Bruggeman and (friend) Lori Conger of Riceville: nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; two half-sisters; Cleone Pelz and Darlene Jones; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Julia; her husband Lawrence; infant daughter Shirley; a sister Alvina; and three half-brothers, Andrew, Marvin, and Leo; and one half-sister Edna.
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
