Hans Galen Staff was born January 3, 1910, at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Johan Wilhelm Staff and Clara Olava Winnor, the first of their five children.

Hans was baptized on March 6, 1910 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa and also confirmed there. He received his education in the Mitchell County Schools.

Found in the 1910 - 1930 censuses at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:
1910: John W Staff 36, Carrie Staff 31, Hans Staff 3 mos, Anna Staff 70, Emma Staff 42.

1915: Hans Staff age 5.

1920: John W Staff 45, Clara O Staff 41, Hans G Staff 10, Mena A Staff 8, Lloyd H Staff 6, Jean W Staff 3 yrs 10 mos, Olaf M Staff 2 yrs 3 mos.

1925: John W Staff 50, Clara O Staff 46, Hans G Staff 15, Mena O Staff 13, Lloyd H Staff 11, Jean W Staff 8, Olaf M Staff 7.

1930: John W Staff 56, Clara A Staff 51, Hans G Staff 20, Mina A Staff 18, Lloyd H Staff 16, Jean W Staff 14, Olaf M Staff 12.

Hans married Lora Margaretta Smith on June 27, 1937 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. The couple had no children and later divorced.

Found in the 1940 census living at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa: Hans Staff 30, Margarette Staff 26.

Hans left Iowa and worked for four years in San Francisco, California in the shipyards.

After returning to Iowa, Hans married Hildegarde Troge Anderson on November 16, 1947 at Mitchell County, Iowa. The couple had one son. They ran a small motor and lawn mower repair shop in Cedar Township, Mitchell Co, Iowa.

Hans G. Staff died on January 19, 1993 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa. He is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. There is a memorial for him at Find a Grave #22972320 with photos.
