Beverly Jean Moss, 75, of Floyd, died Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Eden Presbyterian Church north of Rudd. Pastor Cathy Belles will officiate. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Riceville, following the lunch at the church.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 4, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Hauser Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Beverly Jean Moss was born on January 16, 1940 to Milford and Lucille (Urban) Jones. She attended Rudd and Osage Schools. In 1957 she graduated from Osage Community Schools. Beverly attended Iowa State Teachers College on the two year plan. Her first teaching job was at Emmetsburg from 1959-1960. Beverly returned to ISTC and graduated from State College of Iowa in 1962. Her teaching career took her to Hawthorne Elementary in Rochester, Minnesota, Floyd Elementary, Washington Elementary, and Lincoln Elementary in the Charles City Community Schools.
Beverly married William "Bill" Moss on June 24, 1967 in Osage. They had one son, Barry Moss. They made their home in Floyd since 1967. Beverly entertained the residents playing the piano in different care centers in the surrounding area and also played trumpet with the Polka Prost. She enjoyed playing in the Charles City summer band.
Beverly belonged to Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, American Guild of Organists, The Big Four of Iowa Retired School Personnel Association, JCI Senate Friendship, and the Heritage Club. She gave private piano and organ lessons for many years. Beverly accompanied students during contest time. She was a member of the Eden Presbyterian Church.
Beverly was one of the organists for many years and was also an Elder of the church. She also did organ substitute work for some of the surrounding churches. Beverly also had belonged to ISEA, NEA, and CCCEA.
Living family members include her husband, Bill of Floyd; son, Barry Moss of Aurora, Colorado; brother, Wayne (Carol) Jones of Rudd; sister, Charlotte (Jerry) Meitner of St. Ansgar; nieces: Lori (Jones) Aird, and Diann (Meitner) Tabbert; nephews: LeRoy Jones, Leland (Barb) Meitner, and Kenneth (Julie) Meitner; and grand nieces and nephews.
